COERR Set Up Pig Bank Project in Refugee Camp

The Pig Bank project was set up at Ban Tham Hin camp in Ratchaburi province in June 2019. COERR distributed 3 sows and some feed to the Pig Bank, implemented by the members as a start.

It is planned that when each sow produce about 8 piglets, two female piglets and one male piglet would be given to the new interested farmer group to start their own pig raising.

When these pigs grow up and produce more piglets, some of them will be returned to the Bank in order to give to the new farmers as to start a new cycle again.

Though presently the pig bank project has not reached the target of 8 piglets per sow, the interested pig bank members learn the management of pig bank, problem solving and team work skills.

It is COERR’s intention to set up the Pig Bank project in all 9 refugee camps in hoping to promote the refugees with income generation and more food production, as well as to acquire management skills through participation in COERR’s Pig Bank Project.

Cooperative training was conducted at Ban Don Yang camp during 11-12 June 2019. The trainees were consisted of camp based staff, livelihood committee, farmers and animal raising group members. After the training, the camp cooperatives was set up with 5 committees and 10 members.
